Canon PowerShot SX200IS 12 MP Digital Camera

Features: 12.1-megapixel resolution, 12x optical zoom with Optical Image Stabilizer.

For all its easy operability, the PowerShot SX200 IS has a great feature set. The 12.1-megapixel resolution delivers a wealth of detail to every image, and allows you to crop and enlarge any portion of your shot freely. With the camera’s powerful 12x optical zoom, you’ll get up close fast, handy at sports and school events as well as everyday creative shooting. The 28mm wide-angle lens captures more in every frame, and gives your photography a professional edge.

Cool new feature: Blink Detection

Blinking subjects can ruin the best shots, and the problem usually is not detected until it’s too late to do anything about it. The PowerShot SX200 IS is equipped with Canon’s new Blink Detection to combat this common image flaw. The feature uses the power of Face Detection to determine whether any subject in the previous shot had closed eyes. If closed eyes are detected, a "blink warning" icon appears for 3 seconds, allowing you to retake the shot before your subject or subjects move on.

Sigma Fisheye 15mm f/2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS

The Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye is a full-frame fisheye auto focus lens that fills the entire 35mm negative with a full 180 degree diagonal field of view. This unique lens enables you to create a variety of unusual compositions even when shooting ordinary subjects. The improved DG lens coating reduces flare and ghosting, which is a common problem of digital cameras, and also creates an optimum color balance.Since most Digital SLR cameras use a smaller image sensor size (APS-C) than 35mm film cameras, 180 degree angle-of-view can not be obtained with Digital SLR cameras. With those cameras only the center part of the frame is used, therefore, peripheral distortion will be very small. The super wide angle of this lens makes it ideal for use with digital SLR cameras, providing a focal view of approximately 23mm.

Palm Pre - Is it an iPhone Killer?

The Palm Pre
The Palm Pre is being touted around as an iPhone killer. It's not, but it will certainly give Apple a run for its money. Engadget has produced a nice little comparison of the the two devices which discusses the nature of Apple's "multi-touch" patents and some of the other capabilities of both phones. Whilst the iPhone has enjoyed a lot of success, certain shortcomings mean that some users, and especially business users, are still looking at other options.
The Palm Pre is the first phone which in my mind offers a real alternative. It has a removable battery, copy & paste and a better camera, a touchscreen that extends about an inch below the display, excellent web integration, universal search and really well implemented multitasking. It offers some really nice capabilities and looks like it will cause a few people to consider it over the iPhone. Visit palm for more info on this new device.

The ebook boom

One of the things which has struck me recently is the number of folks I've witnessed who are using ebook readers like the Amazon Kindle, Sony Reader and others. I've been a user of ebooks for almost a decade now and only in the last five years have I really been able to really enjoy the reading experience. I don't use a dedicated reader but have until recently used a PocketPC with µBook from GowerPoint as the main app for reading books. I've now got an OQO which still uses µBook but also supports a decent version of Adobe Acrobat and other Windows XP-compliant apps.

Ars Technica have recently published an article which seems to have gotten a lot of the history of the ebook slightly muddled and which also seems to place a lot of faith in Apple's iPhone and its ebook apps. As much as I like the iPhone, it is far from ideal as an ebook reader due to its poor resolution. I'm looking forward to slimmer form factor PCs which are reminiscent of the reader devices as seen on shows like Star Trek - The Next Generation.

Ubuntu Pocket Guide and Reference book

Where was this reference guide when I needed it 2 or so years ago? I'm proficient with installing software, hardware and Microsoft's OS while being blindfolded, but when it came to Linux and the world of Ubuntu, I was as clueless as an untrained taxi cab driver.

Now that the Linux Ubuntu OS has matured and shipping on some major computer manufactures such as Dell, author Keir Thomas has put together a pocket guide and reference guide that can be downloaded for free electronically. It's a great way to get started and help you get Ubuntu going on one of your systems from scratch.

You can grab the free guide here. If you prefer a hard copy, you can purchase the book here for $9.94US.
