Are We Doomed To Mundanity

The current trend with giving everyone a sense of achievement, at the price of true excellence, stands the danger of costing us our best and brightest. The price of failure seems too high to our politicos and the liberal elements in our society. They've forgotten that we must have a price for success, and that price is effort and the danger of failure. By giving everyone a sense of winning, we are devaluing the very reason we as beings strive to better ourselves. Sure, more kids are passing exams and more are going to university, but does that necessarily mean our kids are any brighter or that our education system is any better?

Education should be about raising the bar ... creating an atmosphere where we strive for excellence, not one where we are all seen as winners. Some schools don't even give F's out anymore, because it will lower the self esteem of the individuals receiving them. The educators have forgotten that individuality and true achievement is a strength. Trying to make everyone equal, actually does very little to improve our overall value as a species.

We have to allow our children the chance of failure, because then the true value in achievement will be understood. It's not about token gestures, it's about true rewards — the chance to excel.
