Keeping up with the Joneses

Talk about a sign of the times ... these days it's getting to be a real adventure in guessing where the next development is going to come from ... Whether it is $10 Laptops, UMPCs, flash drives or mobile workstations based on USB sticks. It's apparrent to all that the speculation on guessing the next big jump is becoming a real mugs game... the bleeding edge has truly become a minefield for the CIO. I'm of the opinion that the only real solution is to be able to step back and use some real world common sense in determining what is neccessary and what isn't ... A tall order at the best of times. Balancing value for money over power is a tough call, and the need for speed is always going to be a hard call...
