Compact Discs - 25 Years Old
Philips very first CD rolled off the production lines on August 17th, 1982 ... has it really been 25 years! It brought home some truths about todays tech ... how long do we want our products to last. I have had CD's in my possession for about 20 of those years and a few have failed. I can honestly say that I still like the format. Although the format has got its problems such as CDRot and scratch resistance it is largely an improvment on older audio and data storage solutions. The format has seen a number of compatible technologies such as DVD, Blu-rar and so on. I for one insist that the manufacturers of future media and players retain compatibility with this format in future standards. I for one think they owe it to us as I like many of you have many thousands invested in content stored on this 5 inch disc.
