Finding the Right 3D Layout & Design Software

Try SketchUp. It's a terrific, easy to use program. Very powerful, very fast. Ideal for fast work and superbly professional results. The SketchUp web site can be found here. Of course, not everybody can love SketchUp, so why not try IntelliCAD? The latest release is actually called CADopia and it's really quite good. Probably the best CAD software for the money.

Fast workups, sketches, drawings, and other 3D applications can all be realized with ease in SketchUp. We really like the product.

Dead and Abandonded Money Counts

MoneyCounts is a dead product. Broderbund provides online support only for the product and that's about all you're going to find. The support page can be found here. Usually, financial management software has a limited working life and MoneyCounts is no exception—perhaps that's why it no longer works. Broderbund offers a free utility which converts your old MoneyCounts data into a Quicken-compatible format—the download link is on the support page. The product is no longer sold anywhere and is no longer being produced. The software companies believe that if a product is not being produced, it's also not being sold. If it's not being sold, there is no way to offset support costs. They're right, but that knowledge doesn't help users with an orphaned product.

In any case, we strongly recommend moving away from orphaned products as soon as they're abandoned. Try the Intuit products (Quicken, QuickBooks) or Simply Accounting or Microsoft Money.

If your version of Money Counts has stopped working, it's likely because of one of these two reasons: a) Your serial number is time-bombed in that it was originally coded to expire after a certain date, and b) Installation or updating of some other software on your system has corrupted, deleted or overwritten some crucial Money Counts information stored in the Windows Registry. To solve the registry problem, re-install the software. But if the serial number or installation code is time-bombed, you're toast.

Placing a Phone Order with Dell

There's no option in the Dell phone system which states "Press _ to place an order" or anything like that. Why? Who knows. Dell used to do things that way. Nowadays, you have to select "Customer Care" in order to talk to a telephone sales rep who can take you through the order process.
