Imlementation of Frequency Hopping through FPGA

Doing wireless programming and breadboarding? There are plenty of resources online to help with your research.

  • Design & Reuse has lots of information about all aspects of wireless including FPGA
  • There are also some great wireless communications theses out there on the subject, this one from the University of Sydney
  • More research on the subject, this related to GSM wireless, from a paper released by Chilworth Science Park in the UK
  • The FPGA Journal is an obvious source for all related data
  • The University of Toronto has an extensive FPGA research resource online
  • The IEEE offers an interesting power point presentation on Adaptive Frequency Hopping.

Time Recording Problems

Whether you're using Web Radio Recorder, Total Recorder or any other software to schedule recordings of Internet radio broadcasts, you still have to depend on a combination of the Windows Scheduler and a bit of common sense. Of course, sometimes your recording software can mess things up too, but try these solutions first:

  • There can often be a misunderstanding with respect to time zones. This happens when, for example, a four hour show is scheduled to air at 4:00 PM EST (GMT -5) but the recording computer is set to begin recording at 4:00 PM PST (GMT -8). The resulting recording is only picks up the last hour of the program, due to the three hour time difference between zones.
  • There is a conflict with another scheduled event, which results in an incorrect start time. This issue can be caused by the Windows Event Scheduler (which most software uses to create scheduled actions) or a bug in the routines used by your software when it access the Windows scheduler. So if you have more than one scheduled event taking place at the same time, disable one of the events to see if that solves the problem.

Postsccript Aggravations

The subject of Postscript (PS) error codes is a painful one no doubt. Usually, PS error codes below #30 are device-related (printer driver communication for example). Here's an interesting document on general PS named errors (as opposed to just error numbers).

Error 16 (encountered by the majority of Windows and Mac users) usually indicates an input/output (I/O) timeout problem of some sort. Here are the PS error code definitions related to HP laserjet drivers in-system. This is an informative document about PS errors (error #1 and up).

The Adobe Acrobat Distiller Applicaton Programming Interface (API) is available publicly. You can find it here.

IBM provides a list of Postscript data object error codes here (error #30 and up).
