Transcend Unveil 192 GB SSD Drive

Transcend may not be breaking any storage records, but their new 2.5-inch Solid State Device (SSD) storage drive should be fast enough for its 192GB capacity to impress even the most cynical of users. Featuring a SATA II interface which can attain read/write speeds of between 90MB and 150MB per second. The drive also features a latency of just 0.2ms, and its own integrated Error Correction Code to ensure that data is transferred with little chance of corruption. No idea on its cost yet, but people should be lining up for this one.

Seagate Might Sue SSD Makers If Format Takes Off

Although Seagate are also looking at SSD themselves, they're no so keen on the technology taking off. They are as a result making some noise about sueing other manufacturers if this happens. Seagate CEO Bill Watkins, has recently told Fortune magazine that he is "convinced" SSD manufacturers such as Samsung and Intel are violating some of Seagate's patents. I'm of the opinion that this would be bad for the industry, resulting in higher prices for this already expensive technology.
