Samsung Digital Frames Double As Monitors

Samsung have two excellent digital photo frames, which have an awesome feature that allows you to use them as a secondary PC monitor. This is all done via software called UbiSync PC, which lets you display computer imagery on them via a USB connection without the use of a special video card.

The 8-Inch Samsung SPF-85H LCD and 10-inch Samsung SPF-105P LCD both have 1GB of internal image storage and a memory card slot. The 8-inch version offers an 800×600 resolution, while the 10-inch features a sharp 1024×600 screen. Thanks to Technabob for the lead.

Samsung's 1.8" 120GB Glossy USB Drive

Samsung's 1.8
Samsung has broken through the 100GB barrier with its SpinPoint N2. Samsung are pushing the drive to Apple for use in their iPod classic and MacBook Air. Although the 120GB USB drive comes in a cool looking glossy black enclosure the size of a credit card, there isn't a name for it yet (publicly at least).

The 4200-rpm USB drive is also power thrifty, drawing less than 1.4W and just 300mA from a 500mA USB port. The drive is rated at 4,200-rpm, and has a read speed of 27MB/s and a write speed of 23MB/s. The SRP of 40GB version should be around $160 with the 120GB model retailing for about $293. Put it in a gold plated case and you'll have plenty of buyers.

Samsung Announce 256GB SSD

Samsung MLC 256GB SSD drive
Solid State Drives are increasingly being looked at as the future of portable data storage, and Samsung have just raised the stakes by announcing a 256GB SSD. The NAND Flash memory based MLC 256GB SSD drive is a 2.5in SATA II drive that's only 9.5mm thick. It looks like the battle for the thinnest large capacity SSD in on.

The Drive is also very fast, with a purported data read rate of up to 200MB per second, and all this whilst consuming only 0.9Watts in active mode. Samsung will start mass producing it by the end of this year.

Samsung Prices Dual Format HD Disc Player

Samsungs BD-UP5000 'Duo HD' unit which will have Certified HD DVD and Blu-ray playback, and which will be fully 1080P compliant, has been tentatively priced at around the £800 mark. This Unit will support online extras for HD DVD and Blu-ray via an Ethernet port and can output movies at 1080p in a cinema native 24 frames per second and can scale all the way up to 60fps for faster videos. I don't need a crystal ball to guess that there will be a price war, possibly bringing the price down even more.

Samsung Unveil A Weatherproof TV

Did I just say weatherproof, maybe they're stretching the line a bit, but the images that are appearing for this new 42" weatherproof HD-ready TV seem to suggest more water than weatherproof. The Sanyo 42LM4WPR-E, as it is called, is not even 1080p but I'm certain that it'll cost as much as one... The Set features a brightness level of 500 cd/m², and a contrast ratio of 800 to 1. Pricing and availability are yet to be announced...

Samsung YP-K3 - Slim Cool

The Samsung YP-K3
I recently had a look at the Samsung YP-K3 and I was impressed by its slimline looks and easy to use interface. This music player is superb with a formfactor that is only slightly larger than that of an iPod Nano. I really like the look and feel of the unit with its cool blue LED's and it's capability to playback mp3's, WMA and OGG and Jpegs. The K3 also features a 160 x 128, 1.8-inch OLED display, FM Tuner and has up to 4GB of storage. It'll be a real contender for folks thinking about an alternative to the iPod Nano. Now, if they could only squeeze in a video capability ... for more info visit Samsung UK's K3 Product Page.
